How to Choose the Right Poker Chips Set for You

How to Choose the Right Poker Chips Set for You

You should consider several factors when you buy poker chips. You need to consider how much you want or can afford to pay, how many players will use the chip (and thus how many chips you will need), the construction material of the chips and whether high quality chips are important.

Personally I believe it is better to pay for quality poker chips compared with cheap ones as they will last much longer.

chip-set-tableIf you are having trouble working out how many chips you need when you buy poker chips then consider the following estimations:

3 or 4 players: 300 chipset

5 or 6 players: 500 chipset

7 or 8 players: 700 chipset

10 or more players: 1000+ chipset

This is a guide that you can follow when you buy poker chips. Of course, it is better to have too many chips than not enough chips so my estimates may be a little high however this is what I believe is best in each situation. Buying poker chips is something you will probably only do once so you are best off getting the numbers right the first time as it is always cheaper per chip if you buy in bulk. Of course you can always buy more later down the track if need be.

If you want to buy quality poker chips then be prepared to spend a little more than you would if you bought very cheap ones. Keep in mind that you’ll also usually get a poker chipset case when you buy a full set of poker chips such as 300, 500 or 1000 chipsets. This is good as you don’t have to buy the poker chip case as a separate item. You may also find that you’ll get dice, a deck of cards and maybe a dealer button in your poker chipset.

As a guide, you can buy poker chips such as a 300 11.5 gram “Dice” Poker Chips Set with an aluminum case for just $34.99 at pokershopping.com. These chips are very resilient and are made of top quality composite resin with a metal insert which gives them added weight. You also get a deck of cards, 5 dice and a dealer button. The chipset is made up of 100 white chips and 50 each of red, blue, green and black chips. This is the best deal I have found on quality poker chips as often a similar set can cost up to $75.
